The Greene County Rams girls’ basketball team had a busy week on the calendar this past week with four games on the schedule.
The Rams girls opened up their week Jan. 13against the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars, where they fell by a final score of 64-36. Makenna Ebersole had a team-high 17 points, along with five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks. Kaycee Pittman was second on the team in scoring with ten points, and Sara Morlan was just behind her with nine points, and those were the only three Rams to score points.
The Perry Jayettes were the next opponent for the Rams girls, and they ultimately fell by a final score of 38-27. A slow starting and ending quarter provided the cushion the Jayettes needed to leave Jefferson with a win as they outscored Greene County 9-5 in the first and 10-2 in the fourth frame. The Rams did go into halftime with the score tied 19-19 after they outscored the Jayettes 14-10 in the second quarter.
Pittman had a big night for the Rams as she had 14 points, three rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block. Ebersole was the team’s second-leading scorer with eight points and had a team-high ten rebounds and a game-high two blocks. Morlan was second on the team in rebounding with nine, and Jennifer Robbins was the only other Ram to score points with five.
The Rams then drew the tough task of the ranked PCM Mustangs Jan. 16, and that game resulted in a 60-22 loss for the Rams. The Rams shot seven-for-thirty-six from the field for a 19.4 percent field goal percentage. Ebersole led all Rams with ten points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Morlan was second on the team in scoring with five points, Pittman had four points, and Faith Jaimes-Diaz rounded out scoring for the Rams with three.
The long week ended when the Rams girls faced the Grand View Christian Thunder, resulting in a 62-43 loss for the Rams. Ebersole had a scoring outburst for the Rams, as she had 21 points and netted a monster double-double with a game-high 17 rebounds. Ebersole was also credited with a game-high seven blocks (Ebersole is one of the best blockers in the Heart of Iowa Conference.) Morlan was second on the team in points with 13, and Autumn Barrett was second on the team in rebounds with six. Their 43 points scored against the Thunder represents the most points they have scored this year. This young team continues to put out encouraging signs each week they play games and should only continue to get better as the season continues on.
This week, the Rams were expected to take on Madrid on Monday and close out their week on Friday with another game against the PCM Mustangs. The extended calendar has the Rams facing Nevada on Jan. 28 and Roland-Story on Jan. 31.
